Tiles are such a simple thing, a pure essence unsullied by reinterpretation. They come in an array of materials, textures, and patterns or indeed nothing at all. It is this simplicity that makes them the real life version of the computer pixel.
Not so long ago there was a resurgence of the traditional wallpaper, with more and more people finding ways to express themselves personally, the humble tile is now stepping up to the plate to help those artists or would-be artists, open up and express themselves.
Deborah Osburn, a tile maker, curator and all round Tile devotee has curated the new book titled “Tile Envy“, displaying some extremely beautiful tile designs and layouts by established and new talent alike, including Rob Ryan, Timorous Beasties, Dear Human, Ruan Hoffmann, Patricia Urquiola and Raw Edges.
Tile Envy is a beautiful book and a must have for would-be designers and anyone looking for inspiration for their imagination. The meagre £17.95 required to add this book to your collection is money well spent in our opinion. However, at the time of writing this article the book was not currently available on Amazon but we feel it is definitely worth dropping Cicada a line to grab yourself a copy.
